Persona 2: Innocent Sin translation blog

Where Atlus fails, we don’t!

Prologue, part 2 (hooooooooooooo!)

Posted by Gemini on March 7, 2008

I was finally able to play the prologue, entirely and without crashes. The problem I had the last time was with a map file being bigger than the original, which caused the game to go nuts and uncompress data incorrectly, resulting in a black screen of death. I’ve improved the map inserter now so that it regenerates the position/size table for all the files as necessary, something similar to what my ToP patcher does. Fortunately, this should also fix a bug I had in Seven Sisters (when you go back because of the stem curse) with some classes not loading at all.

And now, images for you:

OMG, OMG, OMG! Your hacking skill are makin me all hot and pulsating! XD

  3. KrelianX said

Yes! Good to hear that you figured it out. Every blog you post makes me want to play this game more xD

  4. Takehaniyasubiko said

BTW, Gemini – I’m pretty sure you know this already but there’s a topic about you on the official ATLUS USA forum: http://www.atlus.com/new_forum/viewtopic.php?t=731

Awesome! Y’know, I originally subscribed to the RSS feed for this when you first put it up, because I figured updates would be few and far between. But wow! You’re really going after this pretty hard! Thanks for the hard work, Gemini!

  6. Gemini said

Yeah Take, I know about that post. Actually I know about all sites pointing to this blog. xD

  7. Takehaniyasubiko said

I think that ATLUS is the only company out there that would allow something like this… XDDDDD

  8. SlyStrife said

Great job! I’m glad you fixed that bug…more cookies for you! ^_^

  9. Takehaniyasubiko said

At this pace, you’ll finish the hack way before the translation is complete but that was to be expected. In fact, you said that it will end up like this. But hey, you only have two translators with limited time. It’s a pity that some kind of translation team wasn’t formed (like those anime subbers groups that are popping up like crazy this day and age).

Well, this is waiting, I guess. Let’s just hope Tom isn’t going to space again… :P

  10. Gemini said

I want Tom back. T_T Reading some of the NPC dialogues he translated makes me so drool. Eikichi’s random crap is way too funny. xD

Atlus forum.. Why didn’t I think of that?

But anyways, great news Gemini. I love when you update. I’m glad this is my homepage.

  12. Chris8282 said

Probably because I thought it would attract all the bad kind of attention.

  13. Gemini said

Atlus seems to be cool with homebrew translations. But they might be always preparing some cease and desist letter just for this project. Ow boys! xD

  14. Takehaniyasubiko said

Nah, they won’t – guys over ATLUS USA are as postively fucked up as the whole SMT series is! XD

  15. PFV said

Just in case, Gemini, if you’d rather not have this blog linked on Atlus’ forums, I’ll edit it out. Didn’t really think anything about it, since translations have been posted there before (like your very own ToP). Much love for your work. <3

  16. Gemini said

No problem PFV. And I have the impression that Atlus doesn’t care anymore about Innocent Sin, in fact they didn’t even bother to have it on Sony’s PSN.

  17. Takehaniyasubiko said

Well, let’s face it – this game is too… disturbing for the mainstream. ATLUS choose to go another path with P3. I mean, those bastareds didn’t even give us the possibility to hook up the main character with Akihiko!

  18. PFV said

Heh, I figured it isn’t/wasn’t a problem, but it kinda hit me when I was reading comments here that it *might* have been a slight douchebag move on my part. ;)

  19. Takehaniyasubiko said

BTW, Gemini – “Hanaji” is a nickname meaning “nosebleed” so shouldn’t it be translated into English…? Or maybe there’s a line in the game itself that clears this up?

  20. Gemini said

Hanaji was going to be translated as Bleedy Mari, but Tom changed his mind when he translated her description (which includes the explanation for her nickname). I’m not sure whether to keep it as is or not.

  21. Takehaniyasubiko said

Yeah, it really isn’t easy to localize a Japanese game… But I’m sure you guys will make just the right decisions.

As a side note – I must stop reading about IS. I find myself catching spoilers over and over again. I’ll really spoil it to myself entirely if I keep this up… X_x

  22. Danny said

Wow, you’re updating really fast now!Glad to know you’re making progress with the hack :D

  23. Chris8282 said

Was progress always this fast or are going faster?

  24. Takehaniyasubiko said

Guys, it’s fast but on the hack side. We won’t go anywhere without the translation going along and for now, it isn’t… ;/

  25. enderall said

    Man,excellent work!!!

Looks too awesome to be true!!!

  26. Chris8282 said

But from what I get from Gemini’s words the hack part is pretty hard and not guaranteed but the translation (unless a translator quits) is pretty much more guaranteed.

  27. Takehaniyasubiko said

    Not anymore.

  28. gimlianon said

Well, Gemini, I’m sure you get this a lot but here goes… You kick so much arse, it’s actually unbelievable. You are a god among men. I really appreciate all the hard work you’ve been putting in to this project. I shall be waiting (and lurking) intently for your final release!

  29. Takehaniyasubiko said

Yeah, he’s technical voodoo is impressive indeed. ^^

  30. Takehaniyasubiko said

    *his :P

I’m more excited about this than pretty much anything in gaming in the past five years. Keep up the good work, Gemini. I hope whoever’s taking over translation is on the same level as the person responsible thus far. It reads well and sounds natural.

Exatcly. I myslef can’t concentrate on any next-gen game because of IS.

  33. Rhadamanthus said

You guys really need to work on the grammar. I’m hoping you’ll employ a proofreader.

  34. Gemini said

Somebody already offered for that task.

  35. Rhadamanthus said

I wasn’t offering, if that’s what you got from my post. I was just saying you need a proofreader.

  36. Gemini said

And I told you somebody already offered for the job, aeons ago.
